Classwork Directions:
1. Read, Page 1045-1048 in literature book, ("John Henry“) 2. Go to page 15 in journal. Title the page “John Henry” Questions 3. Write AND Answer questions 1 and 3 from page 1049 in literature book and write them on page 15 in journal.Use story and summary chart on page 1049 to answer the questions. Homework Directions: Write on page 16 or staple/tape notebook paper 1. Choose 3 examples of imagery from “John Henry”. 2. Explain how the storyteller intended for the images to create symbolism within the storyteller’s myth? 3. How does the storyteller with intent build the conflict and then resolve the conflict? We'll write the examples as we read and learn more. For now, write the following description/key traits into the chart:
1. Folktale: passed down from generation to generation, every country has one. 2. Fairy tale: make believe stories with magical creatures, always have a happy ending 3. Legends: explain why a natural occurrence happens, many Native American tribes have one. 4. Myth: religious story that people believe to be true, it almost always explains something in the world, connects to other myths 5. Fable: uses animal characters to teach a moral or lesson 6. Tall tale: a funny, exaggerated story of a larger than life character who solves a problem. Write on page 159 of interactive notebook.
