My name is Alexandria Byrd and I grew up in the Houston area. I returned to Houston after starting my career in journalism to become an educator. I've been teaching for five years, and I started out in 8th grade English Language Arts and Reading at Lewis Middle School in Aldine Independent School District.
Then, I moved to Fondren Middle School in Houston Independent School District for the 2017-2018 school year. I currently teach 7th grade English Language Arts (Language and Literature) and serve as the English Language Arts and Reading Department Chair. I'm working on Master's of Education in Curriculum and Instruction-Instructional Technology at Houston Baptist University, so I'm also a student. I graduated from the University of North Texas in Denton with a degree in Journalism News-Editorial Writing. My professional background involves eight years of journalism. In the past, I wrote for a daily newspaper, quarterly magazine, and an internationally renown publishing company. I decided to move into education to further help the lives of young people and instill my love for writing, reading and communication. My favorite book of all time is "The Bell Jar" by Sylvia Plath. |
